LOOK AT THAT MANIAC!
20” x 40” Acrylic on canvas
In 1955, at the age of 24, James Dean briefly owned his incredibly tiny lightweight Porsche 550 Spyder, which spent most of it’s time in the shop for tuning. Equipped with freshly painted 130s and famously dubbed 'Little Bastard,' Dean and his mechanic made the fateful decision to take it up to a race in Salinas after only after having it for a week or so.
I envision Dean embarking on a solo test spin through the side streets of Los Angeles. Compared to his previous 356 Speedster, which he had raced extensively, the new diminutive Spyder was in a league of its own. Undoubtedly, he pushed it to its limits, tearing through the streets and causing alarm to many big car drivers.
